Social media influencer Jack Doherty has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after crashing his expensive sports car. Doherty, who has nearly 15 million subscribers, was livestreaming a drive in the McLaren on the platform Kick when he started to look at his phone and lost control of the car. The 20-year-old then hydroplaned into a guardrail. Footage shows him frantically screaming for help and asking bystanders to break his window as the car is destroyed. Many viewers quickly criticized Doherty for appearing more concerned about his totaled McLaren and less about his bleeding cameraman, Michael.
Doherty was able to escape the wreckage of his vehicle and the scene of the crash, but Michael sustained injuries, including cuts to his head. After Doherty’s video of the crash garnered over 14 million views on X (formerly Twitter), fellow YouTubers and streamers called out his behavior, with prominent figures like Brett Hoffman and Corinna Kopf calling out Doherty for being “uncaring.”
The crash comes just days after Israel marked the anniversary of its deadliest day in its war with Hamas, which completed a year on October 7. A barrage of rockets from Gaza and Lebanon was fired at Israel, including one that hit an Israeli military intelligence base near Tel Aviv. The attack highlighted the fragility of Israel’s security situation, with Hezbollah, which has been firing missiles into Israel as part of its support for Hamas, demonstrating that it remains a potent threat despite an escalating military campaign by Israel.
Several people have been injured, and Israel has responded with airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. A source close to Hezbollah said that the organization had lost contact with a critical leader, Hashem Safieddine, in the latest round of attacks.
It’s not the first time Doherty has been in hot water for his reckless actions online. In November 2023, he uploaded a video of himself flipping over a golf cart with his girlfriend in the passenger seat. He also caused a car accident in March of the same year by going off-roading and losing control of his off-road vehicle.
