She announced on Instagram that former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East is pregnant with her third child. The 31-year-old posted a photo of herself sitting at an ancient stadium in Greece, with the Olympic rings visible behind her. She is cradling her growing baby bump in a black dress.
“Swipe for a surprise ☺️,” Johnson East wrote in the caption. “Baby number 3 is coming this fall!”
Johnson East and her husband, retired NFL player Andrew East, are parents to two children: son Jett James, 2, and daughter Drew Hazel, 3½.
“We are so excited to share this news with you all finally!” Johnson East wrote. “We have been keeping this little secret for a while now, and we are so excited to announce that we are expecting our third child finally! We are feeling so blessed and grateful.”
The couple’s announcement was congratulated by fans and friends, including fellow gymnast Simone Biles, who commented, “Congratulations!!! So happy for you guys.”
Johnson East retired from gymnastics in 2012 after winning a gold medal on the balance beam and silver medal in the team competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She has since become a successful author, television personality, and entrepreneur.
2016 she married East, who played in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles. The couple has been open about their struggles with infertility, and they underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive their first two children.
In her Instagram post, Johnson East thanked her fans for their support and said she is “excited to start this a new chapter in our lives.”
“We can’t wait to meet our little one and add to our family,” she wrote. “We are so grateful for all our love and support so far.”
